Vision
As Delaware County Recorder, Julie R. Houston will serve the present, plan for the future, and preserve the past. She knows that communication with constituents is essential to the success of this office and will look for new opportunities to meet the needs of residents.
Experience
Julie is a capable leader with quality experience. She has a Bachelors of Arts in Communications from Otterbein College, eight years experience as Government Documents Manager at the Ohio Wesleyan University Library, and seven years experience as a downtown Delaware retail business owner.
Leadership
Delaware needs elected officials who are committed to the growth and preservation of our community. Julie currently serves as the Secretary of the Delaware County Bicentennial Commission and is the Past Executive Director of the Delaware County Historical Society. Julie was active in library professional organizations in the ‘80s and ‘90s as a board member, committee chair and featured speaker. She was cited for Distinguished Service by the Academic Library Association of Ohio in 1995. Julie is active in the Delaware County Democratic Party and currently serves as the First Vice-Chair.
Service
Julie advocated for children as a Court Appointed Special Advocate, Delaware County Juvenile Court for two years and as a Facilitator for the Delaware County teen pregnancy prevention program for six years. She volunteered as an AmeriCorps VISTA for the Columbus Metropolitan Area Community Action Organization. Julie has also worked as a poll worker for the Delaware County Board of Elections for four years, helping to ensure that all residents’ votes are counted.
Community
Delaware needs a County Recorder who is active in their community. Julie has been a Delaware County resident for over 40 years. She has been a member and volunteer of the Girl Scouts of the USA for 29 years, leading troops of local girls and representing our community as a council delegate. Julie is known for her passion for the arts, and is a member and volunteer for the Delaware Area Cultural Arts Center and the Delaware Community Chorus. She is a noted singer, and has performed the National Anthem at Cincinnati Red’s Opening Day in 1989, the Central Ohio Symphony Orchestra concert
